Billy & Me

The story of Billy and Me is about two young boys born in the fifties in a small country town in Australia. The short stories follow their friendship through the sixties into the early seventies. The characters are real and so are the stories. Because sixty years have passed a little poetic licence has been taken.

Me grew up in a family of eight. Times were very hard which caused a lot of anxiety and a little depression. Come Friday afternoon knowing he had maths science and English Me couldn't face going to school and so Me and Billy would wag (skip) school every Friday afternoon.

Billy was the opposite of Me - very outgoing and likable whereas Me was more shy and quiet. Billy was brought up in a steady family environment yet he was all too eager to wag school and get into mischief. Billy is also a nickname shared by two close friends and the stories are of one or the other.

We hope you enjoy these small glimpses of our lives being told and illustrated. These stories are dedicated to our children grandchildren and great-grandchildren and to a dear friend John who has been there for fifty years and counting.
